28th May, 1942.

With reference to my despatch No. 108 of the 6th May, transmitting copy of Mrs. Priestwood's report events and conditions in Hongkong, I have the honour to forward herewith, a further instalment in continuation of her story.

2.

The report consists largely of extracts from notes compiled by Mr. W.P. Thomps on who suggests that in general the treatment of internees by the Japanese, apart from individual acts of brutality, was not unduly harsh.

3. Although conditions would appear to have improved compared with those obtaining in the earlier stages the Japanese must be held responsible for indignities imposed upon their prisoners, for underfeeding them and for disregard of the usages of War common to civilised nations.

I have the honour to be etc.,

(Signed) H.Seymour

The Rt. Honourable Anthony Eden, M.C.,M.P.,
